JazzArts Charlotte announces new preschool program

August, 2019 — In celebration of 10 years in Charlotte, JazzArts Charlotte kicks off the Fall season with WeBop, a brand new program for Charlotte, targeted to the youngest jazz lovers, preschool.

WeBop is a nationally acclaimed program developed in collaboration with the Teachers College at Columbia University. Kids age 3-5, along with their parents, enjoy fun activities that combine movement, language, and music to develop a student’s gross motor, fine motor and memory skills. The WeBop teachers lead children to a greater understanding of jazz, of their national musical heritage, and, ultimately, of themselves. Jazz at Lincoln Center has been offering these award-winning classes for 10 years.

JazzArts Charlotte is excited to bring it to our community as a key part of our efforts to further expand our mission by expanding to a new and important audience. “The benefits of music to the very young have been proven over and over,” says Lonnie Davis, Founder and CEO. “As we celebrate our 10 year anniversary in Charlotte, it is the perfect opportunity to make children’s music education available through jazz.”

Dawn Anthony, who headlined the most recent sold-out JAZZ ROOM, will be one of the WeBop jazz teachers. Initially focused on performance, Dawn was offered a teaching role with young parents early on, and immediately fell in love with teaching music. Anthony has had a passion for helping students of all ages find their “voice” in life ever since.

Registration for these classes is currently open.  See details below.  For more information and to register, click here.
