Lucy Yeghiazaryan: A Fresh Voice in Jazz Coming to The JAZZ ROOM!
We are thrilled to announce our next performance at The JAZZ ROOM is the remarkable Lucy Yeghiazaryan on June 16th and 17th.
Lucy Yeghiazaryan is an exciting up and coming name in the world of jazz music and has become a leading voice in straight-ahead jazz in only a few short years. Born in Armenia, Lucy carries with her a rich cultural heritage which she beautifully blends with her love for American jazz. Yeghiazaryan’s music is a testament to jazz’s power to transcend borders and weave together diverse traditions. Lucy began listening to her father’s once-contraband collection of jazz records at a young age. Electricity was intermittent so she didn’t get to listen often, but the collection of standards captivated young Lucy so much that years before she ever learned to speak English, she began singing the tunes meticulously mimicking the sounds and styles of the likes of Ella and Sarah Vaughan.
Lucy’s unique style is a blend of classic and contemporary. She has an undeniable connection to the great jazz traditions of the past, but she also brings her own fresh and distinct approach to every performance. Her soulful renditions and improvisations reveal a deep understanding of the genre, and her original compositions showcase her as a forward-thinking artist in jazz. In Lucy’s performances, there’s an intimate narrative. Her passion for storytelling through music shines in her song choices and in the way she engages with her audience. When you attend one of Lucy’s performances, you’re not just watching a concert — you’re part of a shared musical journey.
In addition to working regularly with JAZZ ROOM favorite Emmet Cohen, Lucy is also a recipient of grants from the Doris Duke Foundation, Chamber Music America and the New York Foundation for the Arts. She has shared the stage with Harold Mabern, Houston Person, Grant Stewart, Terell Stafford, Bernadette Peters, Arto Tuncboyaijian and many more.
Her upcoming performance at The JAZZ ROOM will be an exploration of the music of the legendary Shirley Horn and we invite you to experience Lucy Yeghiazaryan’s performance for the first time. This is a unique opportunity to witness one of the most promising and captivating voices in jazz today.
Tickets are available now for both the June 16th and 17th performances. Don’t miss this chance to enjoy a thrilling jazz experience, and to support the vibrant jazz culture that JazzArts Charlotte is proud to cultivate.
