November 21, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Guitarist Andy Page and his quartet of strings return with their high energy classic gypsy jazz swing made famous by legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt.
Guitarist Django Reinhardt is the father of Gypsy Jazz, a musical style he developed in the 1930’s. Born into a gypsy family in France, Reinhardt was surrounded my gypsy music. After hearing recordings of Louis Armstrong, Reinhardt evolved his music to combine the vibrancy of pre-War Paris with the musical precision he admired in jazz.
Andy Page is an esteemed guitarist making music for nearly 30 years. He teaches at Appalachian State University in Boone and has performed regularly with Todd Wright, Swing Guitars, and the Page Brothers Gypsy Jazz Quartet. Andy recorded a collection of gypsy waltzes with Charlotte guitarist Scot Wise under the name “Musette Guitars”, which drew international press.
