Vocalist extraordinaire Dawn Anthony re-imagines the warm rich melodies of iconic jazz singer Nancy Wilson whose career spanned over five decades.
The JAZZ ROOM @ The Stage Door Theater provides a casual and intimate setting with tables and a full bar, reminiscent of the classic jazz rooms of yesteryear.
Dawn Anthony is a teaching artist, lecturer, and performer based in Charlotte, NC. Dawn earned her degree in music from Queens University of Charlotte, and pursues her love for learning, performing and teaching through cultural exchanges and musical collaborations. Born in Philadelphia but raised in Georgia, she considers herself a northerner with a southern heart. Singing everything from classical to jazz, and musical theater to gospel–she thrives on making connections with others beyond the words and notes on the page.
Nancy Wilson was an American singer whose career spanned over five decades, and well represents her Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With three Grammys and 70 albums, she is notable for her single “(You Don’t Know) How Glad I Am” and her version of the standard “Guess Who I Saw Today”. During her performing career Wilson was labeled a singer of blues, jazz, R&B, pop, and soul, a “consummate actress”, and “the complete entertainer”. The title she preferred, however, was “song stylist”, which most summons her warm rich sound and ability to vividly tell a song’s story.
