“One of the finest saxophonists in the business”, Charlotte welcomes renowned New York-based saxophonist Steve Wilson. Critically-acclaimed bandleader and “musician’s musician”, Wilson has brought his distinctive, easygoing sound to more than 150 recordings. In this evening at The JAZZ ROOM, we will enjoy Wilson’s own recent blockbuster LP “Sit Back, Relax, and Unwind” and much more. Wilson’s easygoing, soulful style “hits spiritual currents we don’t always hear.”
The JAZZ ROOM @ The Stage Door Theater provides a casual and intimate setting with tables and a full bar, reminiscent of the classic jazz rooms of yesteryear.
Steve Wilson is an Associate Professor at City College of New York, and on faculty at the Juilliard School. Wilson performs with several Grammy-winning ensembles including: Maria Schneider Orchestra, Ron Carter Big Band, and the Buster Williams Quartet. Wilson has played on more than 150 recordings led by such celebrated and wide-ranging artists as Chick Corea, George Duke, Michael Brecker, Dave Holland, Dianne Reeves, Bill Bruford, Gerald Wilson, Joe Henderson among many others.
Along with Steve Wilson, please welcome to the JAZZ ROOM for this show:
Neal Caine, bass
Ocie Davis, percussion
Mondre Moffett, trumpet
Ernest Turner, piano
