This spring, JazzArts Charlotte is celebrating a historic milestone as we reach our highest-ever enrollment in the JazzArts Academy! With 70 students participating in our Youth Ensembles + Workshops and nearly 30 students in the Nuestro Tiempo Latin Jazz Youth Orchestra, we are proud to see almost 100 young musicians honing their craft, deepening their understanding of jazz, and carrying forward the legacy of this American art form.

This record-breaking enrollment comes at a special time—our 15th anniversary year—as we reflect on how far we’ve come and look ahead to an even brighter future. Since our founding, JazzArts Charlotte has been dedicated to making jazz education accessible, inclusive, and transformative for students across the region. What began as a small program with a handful of students has grown into a premier jazz education hub, offering ensemble experiences, workshops, masterclasses with world-renowned artists, and performance opportunities that prepare students for success on and off the bandstand.

The incredible growth of the JazzArts Academy reflects not only the talent and passion of our students but also the dedication of our teaching artists, supporters, and community partners who believe in the power of jazz to inspire, uplift, and connect people. Through structured ensemble training, improvisation, and mentorship, our students develop not only musical skills but also confidence, teamwork, and discipline that will serve them for years to come.

Nuestro Tiempo, our Latin Jazz Youth Orchestra, has also seen tremendous interest and engagement, demonstrating the increasing demand for diverse and culturally rich jazz education. By studying and performing clave-based rhythms, Afro-Caribbean influences, and improvisational techniques, these young musicians are exploring a vibrant musical tradition that continues to shape jazz today.
