Pedrito Martinez FREE Jazz Workshop
September 3, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
JazzArts Charlotte presents Latin Jazz superstar percussionist Pedrito Martinez, for a FREE jazz workshop, in conjunction with his JAZZ ROOM weekend performances. As a way to deepen the interaction of our national jazz performing artists with the local music community, JazzArts Charlotte welcomes student musicians from the Charlotte area and beyond to learn from this world renowned Latin jazz innovator.
This applied workshop is open to middle and high schooler musicians, with at least a year on your instrument. All instruments are welcome – you are invited to bring it along.
A consummate master of Afro-Cuban folkloric music and the batá drum he is also the world’s first-call rumbero—playing, singing, and dancing with dozens of Cuban rumba groups. Born surrounded by the sounds of Cuba, this Grammy-nominated jazz percussionist has recorded or performed with Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, Paquito D’Rivera, Chucho Valdez, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Palmieri, Dave Matthews, Sting, and more, and has contributed to well over 100 albums. He brings all that experience to this jazz “classroom”.
Thank you to the program sponsors and supporters, who each bring jazz alive in Charlotte: Infusion Fund, Knight Foundation, Doris Duke Foundation, North Carolina Arts Council, Arts & Science Council and O’s Place Jazz.
