Jazz Arts Initiative Directors

Lonnie Davis, President & CEO, has a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in music and additional graduate work in Urban and Regional Planning. Lonnie is a graduate of Leadership Charlotte, Class XXXII, and is an accomplished jazz flutist who leads her own ensemble, the Lonnie Davis Quartet. She studied music at Louisiana’s prestigious arts conservatory, New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (N.O.C.C.A.) where her passion for America’s classical music, jazz, was cultivated. She also writes as a contributing jazz education columnist.

Ron Baldwin, CPA, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer, obtained a B.S. in Accounting from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Ron has over 27 years of experience in public accounting, including 8 years at both Deloitte and CohnReznick LLP. Ron’s responsibilities in public accounting included planning and performing audit engagements in the areas of nonprofits, manufacturing, automotive retail, construction contractors, and public sector public (including audits in accordance with GAGAS and OMB A-133). In 2013, Ron completed the Arts and Science Council Cultural Leadership Program.

Ocie Davis, Artistic Director, is an internationally recognized musician, educator, and composer who has performed with some of the most influential figures in jazz including Ellis Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Christian Scott, Nicolas Payton, and Donald Harrison. Harrison has called Ocie "one of the premiere drummers in jazz." Ocie has also had the distinction of being recognized as a Jazz All-Star by New Orleans Magazine and BEST JAZZ TRIO in Charlotte Magazine (2011). Ocie studied music at the University of New Orleans under the direction of Ellis Marsalis.
